Ankle pain can happen for various reasons. Whatever the source may be, it generally causes difficulty in completing daily activities. Some people can be injured by unexpectedly stepping off of a curb and twisting the ankle, which may cause the ligaments and tendons to move beyond their normal range of motion. This can be classified as a sprain or a fracture, and an X-ray is often taken to determine which one it is. Existing medical conditions can cause ankle pain, such as different types of arthritis, including rheumatoid and gout. Cartilage damage may have occurred from previous injuries, and this can make the ankle weak and unstable, possibly causing pain and discomfort. It is beneficial to seek prompt medical attention if the ankle becomes inflamed, is unable to move, or if there are signs of an infection. If you have ankle pain, it is strongly suggested that you consult with a podiatrist who can determine the cause and provide you with relief and treatment options that are right for you.

Falling is unnatural. The feet can hurt from falling, and lifestyle habits may temporarily or permanently be altered. Possible foot injuries can include a sprained ankle, broken foot, or a bruised or broken toe. Any of these injuries may impact the ability to walk, and patients may have to use crutches for mobility. The risk of falling can be lowered by implementing successful fall prevention strategies. These can include improving lighting in the household, removing worn rugs from the living area, and starting a gentle exercise routine. This is beneficial in keeping the body strong, which may help to prevent falling. Additionally, it is wise to have regular physical and eye examinations which can help to update existing medications and eyeglasses. People have found falling episodes may be reduced by installing grab bars in the toilet and shower area, in addition to using a non-slip bath mat. If you would like more information about fall prevention techniques, it is suggested that you confer with a podiatrist who can provide you with helpful information.

Every 11 seconds, an elderly American is being treated in an emergency room for a fall related injury. Falls are the leading cause of head and hip injuries for those 65 and older. Falling can be a traumatic and embarrassing experience for elderly persons; this can make them less willing to leave the house, and less willing to talk to someone about their fears of falling. Doing such things, however, will increase the likelihood of tripping or losing one’s balance. Knowing the causes of falling and how to prevent them is the best way to mitigate the risk of serious injury.

Active children and young teenagers may develop Sever’s disease. This is a foot condition that can affect children who frequently participate in running and jumping activities. It happens when there is a growth spurt, and the heel bone grows faster than the surrounding muscles and tendons. Many children who experience Sever’s disease feel a pulling sensation where the Achilles tendon attaches to the heel. This may lead to walking on tiptoes, and it can be difficult to run and jump. The child may feel better when the activity that caused the condition is temporarily stopped. Additionally, it can be beneficial to wear shoes that fit correctly and to frequently elevate the affected foot. If you see your child limping, it is suggested that you confer with a podiatrist who can properly diagnose Sever’s disease and offer the correct treatment options.

Sever’s Disease
Sever’s disease is also known as calcaneal apophysitis, which is a medical condition that causes heel pain I none or both feet. The disease is known to affect children between the ages of 8 and 14.
Sever’s disease occurs when part of the child’s heel known as the growth plate (calcaneal epiphysis) is attached to the Achilles tendon. This area can suffer injury when the muscles and tendons of the growing foot do not keep pace with bone growth. Therefore, the constant pain which one experiences at the back of the heel will make the child unable to put any weight on the heel. The child is then forced to walk on their toes.
Symptoms
Acute pain – Pain associated with Sever’s disease is usually felt in the heel when the child engages in physical activity such as walking, jumping and or running.
Highly active – Children who are very active are among the most susceptible in experiencing Sever’s disease, because of the stress and tension placed on their feet.

Many foot problems can be easily prevented. Wearing shoes that fit correctly can be one of the first things to do, in addition to performing routine foot stretches that can keep the feet strong. There are various areas of the foot that can be painful. Foot pain in the morning may be indicative of plantar fasciitis, and many runners suffer from this condition. Pain in the toe and surrounding area may be sesamoiditis, which affects the two small bones that are found under the joint of the big toe. If the skin on the feet becomes infected, it may be athlete’s foot. This contagious condition is caused by a fungus, and enters the body through small cracks in the skin on the feet. Effective prevention methods consist of refraining from sharing socks, shoes, and towels. When shoes are worn that do not have adequate room for the toes to move freely in, hammertoe or a bunion may develop, and there are various treatment techniques for these. If you have foot pain for any reason, it is suggested that you contact a podiatrist as quickly as possible who can help you with a diagnosis and treatment options.
